Free CV check
Upload your CV and see in seconds what to fix, what Irish employers expect, and which open roles it fits. Then, if you'd like, a consultant will read it and send you written feedback. It costs nothing.
Upload your CV to check it
PDF or Word, up to 5 MB. You get feedback in a few seconds, and the roles on our site that fit it.
Your CV is checked on your own device. It isn't uploaded or stored unless you ask a consultant for written feedback.
What Irish employers expect from a CV
The check above looks for each of these. If you're writing a CV from scratch, start here.
1.Two pages
That is the norm in Ireland. Three is fine for senior, clinical or academic roles. Keep the last ten years in detail and cut older jobs to a line each.
2.Contact details at the top
Your name, phone number, email address, town and county, and a LinkedIn link if your profile is up to date. A full home address isn't needed.
3.No photo, date of birth or marital status
Irish employers can't lawfully take age, civil status, family status, religion, gender or nationality into account when hiring, so leave them off. Never put your PPS number on a CV.
4.A short profile
Three or four lines under your name: what you do, how long you've done it, and what you want next.
5.Jobs in date order, newest first
Job title, employer, town, and the month and year you started and finished. Explain any gap of more than a few months in a line.
6.Figures, not adjectives
Beds, team size, budget, batch sizes, audits passed, targets met. "Ran a medical ward of 32 beds" says more than "worked in a busy, fast-paced environment".
7.Registration for regulated jobs
Nurses, midwives, health and social care professionals, pharmacists, doctors and teachers should give the body and their number or status near the top: NMBI, CORU, PSI, the Medical Council or the Teaching Council.
8.Your right to work, if you're from outside the EU
Say which permission you hold, for example Stamp 4 or a Critical Skills Employment Permit, or that you'll need a permit. It's the first thing an employer asks.
9.A plain layout, saved as a PDF
One column, ordinary headings, no text boxes or tables. Much of the software employers use to sort applications can't read them. Name the file with your own name.

Questions about the CV check
Is the CV check free?
Yes. The instant check is free, and so is written feedback from a consultant. Candidates never pay FH Recruitment for anything.
Is my CV uploaded or stored when I check it?
No. The instant check runs on your own phone or computer and your CV doesn't leave it. Your CV is only sent to us if you ask a consultant for written feedback or you register, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
Will you send my CV to employers?
Not without asking you. We name the employer and the role and you say yes or no each time.
What does the check look at?
Length, contact details, things that shouldn't be on a CV in Ireland, whether your jobs are dated and in order, whether you use figures, your skills and education sections, professional registration for regulated jobs, stock phrases, and whether the layout can be read by the software employers use.
How are the matching roles chosen?
From the roles listed on this site, using the sector your CV points to, the job titles and skills in it, and where you live. Every match says why it was picked. A consultant makes the real judgement when you register.
Which file types work?
PDF and Word .docx files are checked automatically. Older .doc files can't be read in the browser, so save them as a PDF first, or send them to a consultant and a person will read them.
