How we recruit in hr
People roles are where a business decides what kind of employer it wants to be. We recruit the HR business partners, generalists, talent acquisition and reward specialists, learning and development leads and heads of people who carry that, in multinationals, Irish owned businesses and professional firms.
We also run an HR consultancy, so we know what the work looks like from the inside: the disciplinary that has to be run properly, the handbook that no one has updated, the manager who needs a straight conversation. That shapes how we assess people for these roles.
What employers get
A short list of HR professionals we have spoken to properly, with their qualifications, the size and shape of the teams they have worked in, notice period and salary expectations set out, and one consultant who answers for the search.
What candidates get
The salary range, the size of the HR team and who you would report to, before you agree to be put forward.

Where hiring in hr gets stuck
Hiring takes too long
IrishJobs put the median time to hire at 10 weeks in a September 2025 survey of HR professionals, and good candidates accept other offers in that time. For a people role the delay is felt twice, because the team that is waiting for HR support is the team that needs it. We agree interview stages and feedback deadlines with you before the search starts and hold both sides to them.
Too many unsuitable applications
In an IrishJobs survey in spring 2026, 68% of recruiters said screening irrelevant applications was their biggest drain on time. We send a short list of HR professionals we have spoken to, each with a note on why they fit and where they fall short.
Generalist or specialist
A business of 80 people needs someone who can run a disciplinary on Monday and a recruitment drive on Tuesday. A business of 800 needs a reward specialist. We help you decide which of these you are hiring before you write the advert, because the wrong brief is the commonest reason an HR search stalls.
Pay transparency is coming
Irish law on pay transparency was still being finalised at the time of writing, and candidates increasingly expect to see a range. We help you set a range you can stand over and word the advert so it attracts the level you need.
HR hiring: common questions
Practical answers to the questions employers and candidates ask most.
Do I need to be CIPD qualified to get an HR job in Ireland?
Not for every role, but it opens most doors above administrator level. Employers often ask for CIPD qualified or part qualified for generalist, advisor and business partner roles. Say clearly on your CV which level you hold and what you are studying. If you are changing into HR from another field, tell us what you have done that looks like HR work, such as running a team, handling a complaint or supporting recruitment. That counts.
What is the difference between an HR generalist and an HR business partner?
A generalist handles the day to day: contracts, absence, queries, probation, disciplinary and grievance. A business partner works with a leadership team on how the organisation is structured, hired and led, and usually has a generalist team behind them. Many job titles blur the two, so ask who the role reports to and how much of the week is queries and how much is projects.
Do we have to show the salary in job adverts in Ireland?
The position was still moving at the time of writing. The EU Pay Transparency Directive had a transposition deadline of 7 June 2026, and in March 2026 A&L Goodbody described the Irish legislation as still in preparation, so check the current position before you advertise. Candidates increasingly expect a range, and a role with one tends to attract better matched applicants. We can help you set one.
We have no HR department. Should we hire or buy it in?
It depends on the volume of work. A first HR hire makes sense when there is steady day to day people work and a business that is growing. Before that, an outsourced HR consultant can cover contracts, handbooks and the occasional difficult case at a fraction of the cost. We do both: we recruit HR professionals, and our HR consultancy supports employers directly. We will tell you which one fits.
