What sets this desk apart

  • Retained, research led searches
  • One named lead on every assignment
  • Confidential and reported to timetable

How we recruit

Leadership appointments shape organisations for years. Our executive search practice runs discreet, research led, retained searches for chief executives, directors, non executive board members and senior functional leaders. We map the market, approach people who are not looking, and manage the process with the confidentiality and rigour it deserves.

Every search has one named lead from first conversation to appointment, and is reported against an agreed timetable.

Roles we recruit

  • Chief Executive and Managing Director
  • Chief Financial Officer
  • Chief Operating Officer
  • Chief Technology Officer
  • Non Executive Director

Where hiring gets stuck

Hiring in executive search is hard. Here is where it sticks.

  1. 01

The best people are not looking

Senior leaders rarely answer adverts, and the strongest are busy doing well where they are. We map the market for each brief, approach people directly and in confidence, and report to you on who we spoke to, who declined and why.

  2. 02

    Confidential replacements

Replacing a serving executive, or hiring ahead of an announcement, cannot be done in public. We work from an agreed brief, describe the organisation without naming it until there is real interest, and limit knowledge of the search to the people you nominate.

  3. 03

    Small pools in regulated sectors

A Director of Nursing, site director or head of quality needs specific registration or regulated experience, and the field of credible candidates in Ireland can be very small. We search internationally as well, including Irish leaders working abroad who may be ready to come home.

  4. 04

    Offers that fall through late

Long notice periods, counteroffers and family relocation can undo a senior appointment after months of work. We raise each of these with candidates at the first meeting, not the last, and stay in contact from acceptance to start date.

Open in the market

Executive Search roles employers are advertising now.

These roles are being advertised by employers in Ireland. FH Recruitment has not been instructed on them. If one suits you, tell us which. With your agreement we approach the employer on your behalf, and nothing is sent anywhere without your say so.

Questions

Executive Search hiring, answered.

Practical answers to the questions employers and candidates ask most.

What is the difference between retained executive search and contingency recruitment?

In contingency recruitment an agency is paid only if its candidate is hired, often in competition with other agencies, which rewards speed. In a retained search one firm is engaged exclusively, part of the fee is typically committed at the start and the rest is paid in stages, and in return the firm researches the whole market and approaches people who are not looking. Retained search suits senior, confidential or very scarce appointments. We set out fee stages, timetable and reporting in writing before work begins.

How long does an executive search take in Ireland?

There is no reliable average we can point to, so we do not quote one. A search typically runs through briefing, market research, approaches, interviews and offer, and senior notice periods then add to the wait. What we can do is agree a timetable with you at the start, with dates for the longlist, shortlist and final interviews, and report against it. We aim to tell you early if the brief, the package or the market means the timetable has to change.

When should we use executive search instead of advertising a senior role?

Use search when the field is small, when the appointment is confidential, or when the people you want are in post and not reading adverts. Leadership is a known pressure point: 22% of organisations named it as an area affected by skills shortages in CIPD Ireland's HR Practices in Ireland 2026 report, published in May 2026. Advertising still has a place for roles with a wide field or a public appointment process. We tell you honestly if an advert would do the job.

How do I get noticed by executive search firms in Ireland?

Make it easy to see what you have led. Keep a current profile that states the size of the team, budget and business you were responsible for, with a few results you can evidence. Tell a small number of search consultants, in confidence, what would make you move and what would not. Take calls about roles that are not for you and suggest someone better, because researchers remember it. We never share your details with a client without your agreement.
